Naples, 26 August. (LaPresse) – There remains a rift between the parties in the Governing Council of the San Carlo Theatre Foundation, chaired by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, following the appointment of Fulvio Macciardi as superintendent of the theatre on the recommendation of the three members of the Governing Council appointed by the government and the Campania Region. Appeals against the appointment have been lodged with the Civil Court, which will rule tomorrow, and with the Campania Regional Administrative Court, which has set the hearing for 3 September. During the Steering Committee meeting held this morning at the San Carlo, Manfredi recalled the dispute over the legitimacy of Macciardi's appointment. Pending the rulings, a note emphasises, Manfredi has nevertheless expressed 'his willingness to take the necessary steps to formalise the superintendent's appointment. The attempt by three members of the Steering Committee to repeat the procedure for selecting the superintendent, despite the existence of the dispute, is unacceptable from a legal and administrative point of view. In the name of transparency, the legitimacy of the appointment must be clarified,‘ said the mayor of Naples and president of the San Carlo Foundation. Manfredi then assured that ’the theatre's artistic activities are not at risk. I therefore feel I can reassure the workers and companies involved in the coming season. The San Carlo Theatre deserves authoritative and independent leadership that can guarantee the quality standards achieved in recent years. The autonomy of the San Carlo Foundation is an essential value that must be protected."
