Turin, 22 Jan (LaPresse) – Stellantis announced plans to build more vehicles in the United States after John Elkann met with President Donald Trump last week. This is according to an email sent by the company to employees, cited by CNN. Elkann ‘told the president “Building on our proud history of more than 100 years in the United States, we intend to continue this legacy by further strengthening our manufacturing presence in the US and ensuring stability for our great American workforce,”’ the email reads. As a result, the company announced a commitment to build a series of medium-sized pick-up trucks in Belvidere, Illinois. The plant will be reopened thanks to the company's new agreement with the United Auto Workers union. According to the email, 1,500 union workers will return to the plant thanks to this new commitment. Stellantis also stated, it says, that it will produce the next generation of the Dodge Durango in Detroit, invest in the production of the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator in Toledo, and make investments in the plant in Kokomo, Indiana.
