Washington (United States), 23 Apr (LaPresse/AP) – Despite growing friction between Beijing and Washington, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said there is ‘opportunity for a grand bargain’ between the two countries. Bessent spoke in Washington, in a speech at the Institute of Internation Finance, in which he also lashed out at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which provide loans and other financial aid around the world. For Bessent, the IMF ‘has suffered a setback in its mission’, while the World Bank ‘should no longer expect blank cheques’.
