Milan, 11 June (LaPresse) – ‘Coercive trade policies are not a sustainable solution to today's trade tensions.’ This was stated by ECB President Christine Lagarde, speaking at the People's Bank of China in Beijing. "To the extent that protectionism addresses imbalances, it does so not by resolving the root causes, but by eroding the foundations of global prosperity. And with countries now deeply integrated through global supply chains but no longer as aligned geopolitically as in the past, this risk is greater than ever. Coercive trade policies are much more likely to provoke retaliation and lead to mutually damaging outcomes," Lagarde added.
