Inflation: Istat, shopping basket rises to +2.7% in May

Milan, 16 June (LaPresse) – In May 2025, inflation fell to 1.6% from 1.9% in April. This was reported by Istat. The slowdown, according to Istat's statement, was mainly affected by the sharp deceleration in regulated energy prices (+29.3% from +31.7% in April) and thethe sharp decline in unregulated prices (-4.3% from -3.4%); prices for unprocessed food (+3.5% from +4.2%) and certain types of services also slowed. Inflation was supported, however, by the acceleration in processed food prices (+2.7% from +2.2%), which was reflected in the “shopping basket” (+2.7% from +2.6%). In May, core inflation fell to +1.9%, from +2.1% in April.
