Milan, 22 July (LaPresse) – In June, Italy's electricity demand amounted to 27.6 billion kWh, up 7.4% compared to the same month in 2024. This was reported by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity transmission grid. This change was caused by exceptionally high temperatures in June (more than 2°C higher than in June 2024 and the ten-year average temperature). In particular, in the last week of June, average daily temperatures were up to 4°C higher than in the previous year. In recent years, a gradual change in consumer behaviour in response to high temperatures has been observed. In fact, energy demand during the summer months increases with rising temperatures due to cooling requirements, and this correlation has been growing recently. Today, when the average temperature exceeds 27 degrees, there is an increase of over 2,000 MW for each additional degree Celsius. Adjusting the June demand data for the temperature effect, with the same number of working days as in the same month last year, the change remains positive but more moderate (+1%).
