Milan, July 31 (LaPresse) – “A costly summer for Italians.” This is what consumer group Codacons says, commenting on Istat data regarding retail prices. In July, the association points out, “inflation remained stable, recording an average annual increase of +1.7%, which, in terms of household spending, equals an additional outlay of €559 per year for the ‘typical’ family and €761 for a family with two children.”
“The sharpest price increases, however, concern summer holidays and tourism: in July, domestic flight prices rose by +35.9% year-on-year, ferry fares by +10.9%, domestic holiday packages by +10.3%, and vacation homes, B&Bs, and other accommodation by +6%. In just one month, prices for holiday villages and campsites surged by +15.7%, while fees for recreational and sports services (beaches, pools, etc.) increased by +3.7%,” Codacons notes.
“Summer 2025 will be particularly expensive for Italians, and today's Istat figures confirm the sharp price and rate increases in the tourism sector,” said Codacons president Carlo Rienzi. “These hikes are leading a growing number of citizens to give up summer vacations, with around 1 in 2 Italians (49%) not going on holiday between June and September this year.”
