Italy, unions: "Industrial plan not shared, weak project"

Milan, July 31 (LaPresse) – "We were surprised to learn from press reports that" yesterday "the Board of Directors of Ita Airways approved the company’s industrial plan for the period 2026-2030, without any meaningful consultation with the trade unions representing over 5,000 workers who, with their sacrifice and professionalism, have made the company take off," said Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Air Transport, Anpac, and Anp in a statement. They continued: "We consider this yet another serious lack of respect from management towards Ita Airways workers, adding to the slow and inconclusive negotiations on the renewal of the national collective labor agreement, expired last December 31, as well as the unproductive discussions on numerous management issues."
"Regarding the substance – the unions continue – the press information on the industrial plan, if confirmed, outlines a weak project that would see Ita Airways with about 100 aircraft in its fleet by 2030, only slightly more than today. It is therefore unclear with which aircraft the promised expansion of the medium- and especially long-haul network could be maintained. The plan would thus be resigned, with few investments, little or no development, little job growth, and, above all, no involvement or sharing with the staff who should implement it, who have been waiting in vain for months for answers about job security and contract renewals."
"It seems obvious to us – conclude Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Air Transport, Anpac, and Anp – that without a radical change of course from shareholders and management, once trade union activities resume after the summer strike exemption imposed by law on essential services, we will be forced to activate all necessary union actions and initiatives, which will inevitably open a new season of conflict."
