Milan, July 31 (LaPresse) – In June 2025, on a monthly basis, the increase in employed and inactive persons was accompanied by a decrease in the number of unemployed. ISTAT reports that the rise in employed (+0.1%, equal to +16,000 people) involves women, permanent employees, self-employed workers, and all age groups except those aged 35-49, where a decline is observed; employment also decreases among men and fixed-term employees. The employment rate, ISTAT explains, remains stable at 62.9%.
The total number of employed persons amounts to 24,326,000: permanent employees (16,542,000) and self-employed workers (5,274,000) increased, while fixed-term employees (2,510,000) decreased.
The increase in employment is also observed when comparing the second quarter of 2025 with the previous one (+0.4%, or +93,000 compared to the first quarter of 2025). Compared to the previous quarter, the number of job seekers also grew (+1.2%, or +20,000), while the number of inactive persons aged 15-64 decreased (-0.7%, or -81,000).
In June 2025, the number of employed exceeded that of June 2024 by 1.5% (+363,000), driven by an increase in permanent employees (+472,000) and self-employed workers (+190,000), while fixed-term employees declined (-299,000). The rise in employment affected men, women, and those aged 50 and above, with a decrease in other age groups. The employment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points year-on-year.
Compared to June 2024, the number of job seekers fell (-5.5%, or -94,000) as did the number of inactive persons aged 15-64 (-1.2%, or -142,000).
