Milan, 11 August (LaPresse) – ‘Total tourism turnover during the week of Ferragosto (mid-August bank holiday) will reach almost five billion euros.’ This estimate comes from a survey by CNA Turismo e Commercio, which reveals, first and foremost, that "thanks to the weather – after a very hot June, July was mild – Italian tourists in particular have postponed their holidays, perhaps reducing them, but certainly concentrating them in August, and especially in the week between the 11th and the 18th. Now the hope is that tourists will decide to extend a season that has not been particularly exciting so far this year". Going into more detail, the CNA Tourism and Trade survey "predicts over five million tourists in the strict sense, i.e. those staying overnight, with more than 15 million overnight stays. Compared to the week of Ferragosto (15 August) last year, precisely because of the concentration of holidays, there has been an increase in Italian tourists compared to foreign holidaymakers. However, the average number of overnight stays by foreigners remains higher than that of our compatriots. Among the favourite destinations are seaside resorts, cities and villages of art, and the mountains. Italians prefer the sea, while foreigners prefer cities and villages of art. The number of tourists who decide on their destination based on the food and wine opportunities on offer is also on the rise."
