Milan, Sept. 16 (LaPresse) – Nine months after the new Highway Code came into effect, data collected by the State Police and the Carabinieri shows a general decrease in road accidents, especially in terms of the most serious outcomes. This was announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT), explaining that the figures refer to the period from December 14, 2024, to September 13, 2025, compared to the same period the previous year.
Regarding fatalities, there were 80 fewer deaths, dropping from 1,024 to 944 (-7.8%). As for the injured, there were 1,242 fewer, from 32,822 to 31,580 (-3.8%).
Total accidents decreased by 848, from 54,882 to 54,034 (-1.5%), while fatal accidents fell by 50, from 931 to 881 (-5.4%).
Finally, accidents with injuries dropped by 756, from 22,334 to 21,578 (-3.4%).
The Ministry specified that the road accident data and the activities of the State Police and Carabinieri were provided by the Ministry of the Interior – Department of Public Security, Central Directorate for Road, Railway, and Special Police Units, and shared with the MIT.
