Milan, Dec. 1 (LaPresse) – “When European productivity growth fell to about half the US rate and almost all of the divergence emerged from the technology sector, this pattern is now repeating itself with the artificial intelligence revolution. Last year, the US produced 40 major fundamental models, China 15, and the European Union only three, following the same pattern.” This was stated by Mario Draghi in his speech at the inauguration of the academic year at the Politecnico di Milano. "This can be seen in many other frontier technologies, from biotechnology to advanced materials to nuclear fusion, where many significant innovations and private investments are taking place outside Europe. If we do not bridge this gap and adopt these technologies on a large scale, Europe risks a future of stagnation with all its consequences,“ Draghi stressed. ”Given the demographic profile, if the European Union simply maintained the average productivity growth rate of the last decade, in 25 years' time the economy would in fact be the same size as it is today," he added.
