Milan, 30 March (LaPresse) – In the second quarter of 2026, the electricity bill for the ‘typical’ vulnerable customer on the Maggior Tutela scheme will rise by 8.1%. This is according to ARERA, which explains that the update applies solely to the approximately 3 million vulnerable customers currently on the Maggior Tutela scheme. The Authority points out that all vulnerable customers in the open market have the right to switch to the Maggior Tutela scheme. ‘Uncertainty over the duration of the conflict in the Middle East has caused an unexpected rise in energy prices on international markets, with a direct impact on electricity bills, where the increase in energy costs is only partially offset by a 2.2% reduction in the dispatching price (PD),’ explains ARERA. ‘The system charges component currently remains unchanged, thanks to optimised management of currently available liquidity,’ notes the Authority, emphasising that ‘in implementation of the “DL Bollette” decree’ it has ‘provided for a reduction in the rate applied to energy consumed under the ASOS tariff component for non-domestic (non-energy-intensive) users’. The annual expenditure for the typical vulnerable user under the Maggior Tutela scheme will stand at €589.34 for the period between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026, an increase of 4.5% compared to the €563.76 recorded in the previous period (1 July 2024 – 30 June 2025). From 1 April 2026, the reference price of electricity for the typical customer will be 30.24 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, including taxes, broken down as follows: 15.81 euro cents (52.3% of the total bill) for energy procurement costs, an increase of 15% compared to the first quarter of 2026; 2.24 euro cents (7.4% of the total bill) for retail supply, unchanged from the first quarter of 2026.
