Fuel, Financial Times: ‘European airports at risk if the Strait of Hormuz does not reopen within three weeks’

Rome, 10 April (LaPresse) – European airports face a “systemic” shortage of aviation fuel if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully reopened within three weeks. This is the warning issued by the Financial Times, citing a letter sent by ACI Europe – which represents EU airports – to European Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas. Aviation fuel reserves are running low, whilst “the impact of military activities on demand” is placing further strain on supplies, writes the FT. The letter, reported by the business and finance daily, highlights the “growing concerns of the airport sector regarding the availability of aviation fuel, as well as the need for monitoring and proactive action by the EU” . “If passage through the Strait of Hormuz does not resume in a significant and stable manner within the next three weeks,” it states, “a systemic shortage of aviation fuel is set to become a reality for the EU”.
