Brussels, 4 May (LaPresse) – ‘I also met with Minister Giorgetti today to discuss this issue’, namely extending the application of the national safeguard clause of the Stability and Growth Pact from defence to energy, "given that the matter was also raised during the Eurogroup meeting. The various Member States have expressed differing views on the most appropriate fiscal policy response. We will therefore, of course, continue to work closely with Member States, including Italy, to develop this fiscal policy response. But for the time being, our advice is to stick to those targeted temporary measures with a limited fiscal impact." This was stated by European Commissioner for the Economy Valdis Dombrovskis at a press conference following the Eurogroup meeting.
