Rome, May 1 (LaPresse) – Ed Sheeran has announced his new album Play, set to be released on September 12, 2025. To mark the occasion, he has released a new single titled Old Phone. Sheeran describes Play as an album born out of a challenging period in his life, aimed at bringing joy and color while exploring the cultures he encountered during his tours. Created in various parts of the world and finalized in Goa, India, Sheeran calls the making of the album a fun and discovery-filled creative journey. Following the global pop success of Azizam, a technicolor, hedonistic hit, Ed Sheeran delves into nostalgia in his new single Old Phone. The song tells the disorienting experience of revisiting the past by switching on an old phone unused since 2015. Sheeran finds messages from a lost friend, an argument with an ex, and conversations with distant family, highlighting how time and distance reshape identity. Old Phone, produced by Blake Slatkin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, blends evocative acoustic melodies with intense emotions, recalling Sheeran's singer-songwriter roots and exploring themes of growth and memory, painting the portrait of an artist marked and transformed by his experiences.
