Rome, 17 June (LaPresse) – ‘I have no doubts on this clear and non-negotiable point and I have explicitly stated my position and I reiterate it: an attack on my homeland, Iran, is absolutely unacceptable. Israel has violated Iran and should be tried in an international court as a war aggressor’. This was written on Instagram by dissident Iranian director Jafar Panahi, who recently won the Palme d'Or at Cannes with the film “A Simple Foul Play”. ‘This position, however, does not imply ignoring forty years of mismanagement, corruption, oppression, tyranny and incompetence of the Islamic Republic,’ he added. "This government has neither the power, nor the will, nor the legitimacy to govern the country or manage crises. Remaining in this regime means the continuation of repression. The only way out is the immediate dissolution of this system and the establishment of a popular and democratic government.‘ The director then calls for ’an immediate end to the devastating war between the Islamic Republic and the Israeli regime, a war that is destroying civilian lives on both sides and destroying vital infrastructure. This war is a serious threat to regional peace and human values."
