Milan, June 18 (LaPresse) – Last night, the director of the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, Roberto Sciarratta, welcomed Italian-American filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who immersed himself in the ancient ruins during a private guided tour lasting about an hour. “It’s a dream for me to be here,” he said upon arriving at the area of the Temple of Zeus, where one of the large Telamons that once adorned the massive structure is now on display as part of the Park’s major enhancement project. Scorsese then visited the Temple of Concordia and the Temple of Juno, captivated by the beauty of the archaeological heritage at sunset. Accompanying the director of Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Gangs of New York, The Irishman, and many other films, were his family and underwater archaeologists Lisa Briggs and Peter Campbell. The visit to Agrigento is part of an ongoing project for a documentary on Sicilian shipwrecks, for which Scorsese is executive producer.
