Rome, 4 July (LaPresse) – “La Grazia”, written and directed by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, starring Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti, is the opening film, in world premiere in competition, of the 82nd Venice Film Festival directed by Alberto Barbera (27 August – 6 September 2025).La Grazia will be presented in world premiere on Wednesday 27 August 2025 in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema (Lido di Venezia), on the opening night of the 82nd Venice Film Festival. ‘I am very happy that Paolo Sorrentino's new, highly anticipated film will open the 82nd Venice Film Festival,’ said Alberto Barbera. "I like to remember that one of the most important and internationally acclaimed Italian filmmakers made his debut at the Venice Biennale in 2001 with his first film, “L'uomo in più”, during my early years as Artistic Director. A bond with the Festival that has been consolidated over the years with the out-of-competition presentation of the first episodes of the series “The Young Pope” (first and second seasons) and, above all, with “The Hand of God”, which won the Silver Lion-Grand Jury Prize in 2021. Paolo Sorrentino's return to the competition comes with a film destined to leave its mark for its great originality and strong connection with the present, which the audience at the Festival will have the pleasure of discovering on the opening night."
