Actress Veronica Echegui died yesterday at the age of 42 at the 12 de Octubre hospital in Madrid, where she had been admitted. The news was reported by Spanish public radio and television broadcaster Rtve. No further details on the cause of death have been released at this time. Echegui, born in Madrid in 1983, rose to fame for her role in the 2006 film Yo soy la Juani, directed by Bigas Luna, for which she received a Goya Award nomination for Best New Actress. She went on to receive nominations for Best Actress for El patio de mi cárcel (2008) and Katmandú, un espejo en el cielo (2011), as well as Best Supporting Actress for Explota Explota, the Italian-Spanish musical comedy based on the songs of Raffaella Carrà.
