Venice, 28 August (LaPresse) – It's Julia Roberts' day at the Lido di Venezia. Despite her long career, the Hollywood star is making her debut at the Film Festival as the protagonist of the psycho-sexual drama “After the Hunt”, which premieres on Friday evening. The “Pretty Woman” of world cinema arrived in Venice two days ago wearing a cardigan with the Italian director's face on it. She will hold a press conference this morning and walk the highly anticipated red carpet before the screening at 6.45pm this evening. “After the Hunt” is set in the world of higher education and stars Roberts as a beloved professor whose protégé, played by Ayo Edebiri from “The Bear”, accuses her friend and colleague (Andrew Garfield) of crossing the line. Guadagnino is no stranger to the festival, having brought “Queer”, starring Daniel Craig, last year and previously directing “Bones & All”, starring Timothée Chalamet. His film about a tennis love triangle, “Challengers”, starring Zendaya, was supposed to open Venice in 2023, but Hollywood strikes disrupted much of that year's festival and its participation was cancelled. Guadagnino regulars Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny are also part of the cast of “After the Hunt”. Amazon MGM Studios plans to release it in North American theatres on 10 October. “After the Hunt” is being screened out of competition at the festival. Venice director Alberto Barbera explained that the film was good enough to be in competition, but the studio requested otherwise.
