Venice, 30 August (LaPresse) – ‘Do we really think that a march in Venice during the Film Festival can change things?’ This is what director Pupi Avati said in an interview with Corriere della Sera, referring to the pro-Palestine march that took place yesterday at the Lido di Venezia during the International Film Festival. "We are experiencing a horror, but I am disillusioned that a march in Venice is enough to change things. Italian cinema is going through a period of great weakness in general. I really don't think Netanyahu will stop what he is doing because there is a march during a film festival. And then, preventing two actors (referring to Gal Gadot and Gerald Butler, ed.) from participating is not helping to build peaceful relations," he added. When asked if he does not believe in the symbolic value of the march, of the protest, Avati said: ‘Do we really imagine that Trump, Netanyahu or Putin will take note of a demonstration at the Venice Film Festival? It just seems to me that Venice is missing another opportunity to talk about films.’
