Eurovision 2026: organizers to decide on Israel's participation in November

Milan, Sept. 26 (LaPresse/AP) – Organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest have announced that member countries will vote in November to decide who can participate in next year's music show, as calls to exclude Israel due to the war in Gaza have increased. Spokesman Dave Goodman said in an email on Friday that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) board, which brings together public broadcasters, had sent a letter to members indicating that the vote would be held at an extraordinary online general assembly in early November. Countries such as Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Spain have threatened not to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest unless Israel is excluded from the competition due to the war in Gaza. The 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in May in Vienna: the honor of hosting the event goes to the previous year's winner. This year's winner in Basel, Switzerland, was Austria's JJ with the song ‘Wasted Love’.
