Milan, 7 December (LaPresse) – Entertainment workers gather in front of La Scala Theatre, where Dmitri Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District will premiere tonight. ‘We are here today to say that cultural workers must return to the centre of a country's vision, while the government is only thinking about occupying cultural institutions without giving dignity to a job that is intermittent. Today, workers still do not have certainty about their contribution period,’ said Luca Stanzione, secretary general of the CGIL trade union in Milan, on the sidelines of the protest. “A distracted country, while from Milan we can say that this sector, that of culture and knowledge, is a crucial sector for the country,” continued Stanzione. “We are one of the main countries that can boast so many artists, so much cultural production, and from Milan we can say that we are the capital of culture with 25 per cent of the gross domestic product of the knowledge economies produced in Milan,” concluded the trade unionist.
