Eurovision: final list announced, 35 countries to compete in Vienna

Geneva (Switzerland), 15 December (LaPresse/AP) – The organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest have announced the final list of 35 countries that will participate in the competition, now in its 70th edition, scheduled for May 2026 in Vienna. The list does not include Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain, which have decided to boycott the event in protest against Israel's participation. Last week, the winner of the 2024 edition, Swiss non-binary singer Nemo, announced their intention to return the trophy due to the green light given to Israel by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). Countries such as Bulgaria, Moldova and Romania are returning to Eurovision after skipping the event in recent years for artistic or economic reasons. The semi-finals are scheduled for 12 and 14 May, with the final on 16 May. As previously announced, juries will return to vote in the semi-finals for the first time since 2022. The scores will be added to the public votes to determine the 10 songs that will qualify in each of the two semi-finals. These 20 songs will be added to the songs that have already qualified for the final, namely Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
