Rome, 18 February (LaPresse) – ‘Mimmo Liguoro died today (18 February 2026) in Rome at the age of 84. He was editor-in-chief and presenter of Tg2 from 1982 to 1995 and Tg3 from 1995 to 2006.’ The announcement was made by the Order of Journalists in a statement. Liguoro, the statement continues, "was responsible for several Rai news programmes over the years, including the culture and current affairs programmes “Pegaso” (a forerunner of in-depth journalistic programmes outside the news), “Gulliver”, “Tg3 Cultura e spettacolo” and “Tg2 Mattina”. In the 1980s, he presented the mid-evening edition of Tg2, the first news programme broadcast in the evening, between the 7.45 p.m. news and the nightly news. Among the many events he reported on were US President Bill Clinton's visit to Anzio, the election of Francesco Cossiga to the Quirinale, numerous congresses of the major Italian parties and trade union demonstrations. As presenter of “Pegaso”, he followed the events of the first Gulf War until the entry of American troops into Kuwait. “Pegaso” won the television directing award. He had been retired since June 2006. He was a member of the National Order of Journalists' examination committees for admission to the profession on several occasions and taught Theory and Practice of Television Journalism at the School of Journalism of the University of Salerno and Theories and Techniques of Journalistic Language at the same university.
