Rome, 30 December (LaPresse) – Italy has been hit by 351 extreme weather events in 2024. This is the year-end balance sheet put together by Legambiente with the Climate Cities Observatory. For the association, 2024 was ‘a difficult year for Italy’ put ‘in check by the climate crisis with 351 extreme weather events, an increase of 485% compared to 2015’. Moreover, this year was ‘the third year in a row with over 300 extreme events: the increase in damage from prolonged drought (+54.5% compared to 2023), river flooding (+24%) and flooding (+12%) was a major factor’. The region paying the highest price was Emilia-Romagna, followed by Lombardy, Sicily, Veneto and Piedmont. Among the provinces, those of Bologna, Ravenna and Rome. Among the big cities, the capital was the most affected, followed by Genoa and Milan.
