Milan, Jan 27 (LaPresse) – Milan's public prosecutor's office has requested the arrest and house arrest for archistars Stefano Boeri, Cino Paolo Zucchi and a third architect in the investigation for bid rigging on the design competition for the New European Library of Information and Culture (Beic) in Porta Vittoria. For all three, Milan's gip, Luigi Iannelli, has ordered preventive interrogation, which will be held on 4 February at 9.30 am in the presence of lawyers. The preventive interrogation has been triggered, as provided for by the new rules on precautionary measures, because the gip has not yet recognised the risk of evidential pollution. The 68-year-old, head of the Stefano Boeri Architetti srl studio with offices in Milan, Shanghai and Tirana, has been under investigation since October 2023 in conjunction with Cino Paolo Zucchi, Manuela Fantini, Angelo Raffaele Lunati and Giancarlo Floridi because in his role as commissioner of the jury for the Beic international design competition – a work that can count on funding of 101. 574 million allocated in the Pnrr to finish the work by 2026 – he allegedly rigged the competition by failing to declare ‘positions of potential conflict of interest’ and ‘situations of incompatibility’ with regard to the participants.
