Rome, January 28 (LaPresse) – Artificial intelligence is an opportunity, but it cannot take the place of human relationships. This is the key message of Antiqua et nova, a document on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence issued by the Vatican’s Dicasteries for the Doctrine of the Faith and for Culture and Education.

"Although AI can simulate some aspects of human reasoning and perform certain tasks with incredible speed and efficiency," reads the 35-page document, "its computational capabilities represent only a fraction of the broader possibilities of the human mind."

The document highlights several limitations of AI, such as its inability "to replicate moral discernment and the capacity to establish authentic relationships." It is addressed to all those responsible for transmitting the faith—parents, teachers, pastors, and bishops—with an invitation "to approach this urgent issue with care and attention."
