Milan, Feb. 3 (LaPresse) – Four pickpockets were recognized by passengers on the Green Metro line, M3, yesterday morning while inside one of the train cars at Gioia station. The passengers stopped the train.
The women, all of Bosnian origin and undocumented in Italy, reacted by pulling the metro’s emergency brake, causing a service disruption for about 15 minutes, before grabbing a fire extinguisher. In an attempt to escape, one of the women completely emptied the extinguisher on the platform and inside the metro.
Amid the chaos, a 32-year-old station agent was sprayed in the eyes with the extinguisher’s foam and was taken to Fatebenefratelli Hospital under a green code (minor injuries). One of the passengers also managed to take the extinguisher from one of the pickpockets and sprayed them in an attempt to stop them.
Police arrived at the scene and managed to detain the four women, aged 44, 34, 28, and 24. They were all charged with disrupting public service, dangerous object discharge, and intentional omission of safety precautions against injuries. All four also face an expulsion order.
