Milan, February 6 (LaPresse) – "The officer who was struck twice on the head with a hammer this morning during an intervention at the Viverone Sud service area, along the Ivrea-Santhià motorway link, is currently in critical condition. The other officer is awaiting a prognosis but is not in life-threatening condition, as he was only grazed by a bullet that ricocheted off the asphalt," stated Domenico Pianese, secretary of the Coisp police union. Pianese also identified the attacker as a 26-year-old French citizen, Crochon Kelvin Stephane. "Incidents like this are no longer isolated cases: every day, police officers face increasingly serious attacks, risking their lives without adequate legal and operational protections. We stand in solidarity with our injured colleagues and their families, who are experiencing moments of deep anguish," Pianese continued. "The severity of what happened this morning—during what was supposed to be a routine check—should serve as a wake-up call to those who protest against the Security Bill (DDL Sicurezza) without understanding the operational difficulties we face. Police work is unpredictable: even a routine intervention can turn into a tragedy. It is unacceptable to continue ignoring this emergency, and now more than ever, we must push forward with the approval of the Security Bill," he concluded.
