Florence, 15 Feb. (LaPresse) – An appeal to the statutory guarantee board to ask if the law approved by the Regional Council of Tuscany in recent days ‘on the subject of health care for medically assisted suicide – even though it openly sets out organisational procedures – in the absence of a state law that ensures the necessary uniformity, is in accordance with the Statute of the Region’. It was presented by the group leaders in the Regional Council of Forza Italia, Marco Stella, of the Lega, Elena Meini and of Fratelli d'Italia, Vittorio Fantozzi, and they announced it today in Florence, explaining that the guarantee board, after having taken charge of the request, will decide within a few days whether the appeal is well-founded and, if so, will have up to 30 days to decide. In the meantime, the three group leaders emphasised, ‘the law cannot be promulgated and published in the Official Bulletin of the Region of Tuscany’. Stella also recalled that before the Regional Council discussed the law, the president of the assembly, Antonio Mazzeo, had rejected his request for a prior opinion from the regional guarantee board.
