Vatican City (Vatican), Feb 23 (LaPresse) – "The proclamation of forgiveness is an essential duty of the deacon." This is what Pope Francis said to the Deacons in the homily of the Mass dedicated to them for the Jubilee. The homily was read by Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization. "A world where adversaries are met only with hatred is a world without hope, without a future, destined to be torn apart by wars," the Pope wrote, "by endless divisions and vengeance, as we unfortunately see today, at many levels and in various parts of the world. To forgive, then, means preparing a welcoming and safe home for the future, both within ourselves and within our communities. And the deacon, personally invested in a ministry that leads him to the world's peripheries, is committed to seeing—and teaching others to see—in everyone, even in those who make mistakes and cause suffering, a sister and brother wounded in spirit, and therefore in greater need than anyone else of reconciliation, guidance, and help." The pontiff then emphasized how forgiveness is fundamental: "To grow together, sharing each other's light and shadows, successes and failures, it is necessary to know how to forgive and ask for forgiveness, to mend relationships, and not to exclude from our love even those who hurt and betray us."
