Rome, 24 Feb. (LaPresse) – A slight and cautious optimism filters through the latest evening update on the condition of Pope Francis, on the eleventh day of his hospitalisation at the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome. ‘The critical clinical condition of the Holy Father shows a slight improvement’, reads the update released by the Holy See press office. ‘Also today there have been no episodes of respiratory crisis and some laboratory tests have improved’, continues the note, which also emphasises that the “slight renal insufficiency is not a cause for concern”. The prognosis remains uncertain. Bergoglio also telephoned the parish priest of Gaza to express his ‘fatherly closeness’ and thanked ‘all the people of God who have gathered in recent days to pray for his health’.
