Milan, February 26 (LaPresse) – The Verona prosecutor's office has requested the indictment of Luca Campedelli for the bankruptcy of AC Chievo Verona, where he served as sole administrator. The club is currently in liquidation.
The request follows investigations conducted by the Financial Police of Verona's provincial command into the football club 'AC Chievo Verona Srl' (formerly known as 'Associazione Calcio Paluani Chievo Srl' and later 'Associazione Calcio Chievo Srl'), founded in 1984.
According to the investigation, Campedelli allegedly used a "fraudulent mechanism" to present a misleadingly positive financial situation for Chievo Verona. This concealed the club's financial distress and asset depletion, allowing it to register for league competitions despite lacking the necessary financial requirements.
The prosecutor's office, led by Raffaele Tito, also examined "fictitious" player transfers to Cesena and Carpi, which were conducted at prices not aligned with actual market values. In essence, "players were transferred only on paper, without ever physically moving between teams, enabling Chievo to record significant capital gains of over €35 million in its financial statements."
The financial scheme also involved intra-group transactions, particularly the artificial revaluation and transfer of the Chievo brand, as well as the sale of assets, including the Bottagisio Sports Center.
