Health, Schillaci to the Italian Regions: “There are too many unacceptable situations with regard to waiting lists”

Milan, 26 Mar. (LaPresse) – ‘The recent data that emerged from the inspections conducted by the Carabinieri Nan between October and December 2024 reveal a situation that we can no longer tolerate: 27% of the healthcare facilities inspected still have serious irregularities. Agendas arbitrarily left open, inflated waiting lists, fragmented booking systems and opaque practices that hinder access to care persist’. New letter from the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, to the President of the Conference of Regions, Massimiliano Fedriga, regarding the implementation of the Waiting List Decree. A ‘matter – writes Schillaci – that today represents the most important battle to guarantee the right to healthcare for our citizens. ‘The documented irregularities – from artificially inflated waiting lists to arbitrarily closed agendas to reservations managed with paper lists instead of centralised digital platforms – are unacceptable practices that undermine the credibility and effectiveness of our National Health Service,’ the minister says. ‘The national monitoring platform is showing many virtuous cases but at the same time too many unworthy situations’, he adds.
