Rome, 31 Mar. (LaPresse) – ’I see that, today, many are surprised by news that came out yesterday concerning an alleged attempt at industrial espionage. In this case, to the detriment of Italian industrial excellence. The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office acted promptly and opened a case, for now against persons unknown. The alleged offence is very serious: ‘attempted military or industrial espionage’ with the aggravating circumstance of ‘terrorism’. We will see how it develops. I will limit myself to adding this. For years I have been drawing attention and sounding the alarm, sometimes unheeded, and at every possible opportunity, to put what is happening in the spotlight. A hybrid war is underway. Dangerous as it is underground, constant and asphyxiating as it is daily, it is made up of a mix of targeted cyber attacks, recruitment of ‘activists’ (i.e. people on the payroll of foreign and hostile powers or entities), massive scientific disinformation campaigns, theft of military and industrial technologies and patents, and many other hostile acts perpetrated by various state and non-state actors’. This was written on X by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, in reference to the case of the drone intercepted on the JRC Ispra campus. ‘But, not by chance, when I talk, ad nauseam, about the need to “defend” our country, the communities we belong to and the alliances we are part of, I also say that I am not convinced by the term “rearmament” and the slogan “Rearm Europe”. And I say this precisely because our defence and our national and collective security must be guaranteed on several levels, including those of ‘hybrid warfare’ and not only the traditional ones, which remain the most evident to everyone’.
