Milan, April 8 (LaPresse) – The Italian Postal Police have launched an investigation into the online availability of personal phone numbers of top State officials, accessible for €50. The issue was revealed by Il Fatto Quotidiano following a discovery by IT expert Andrea Mavilla. According to the article, among the exposed data is "the personal mobile number of President Sergio Mattarella" – not the official one, but the number he uses for private contacts with friends and family. For about fifty euros, one could also obtain "the number of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni," as well as those of Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. The newspaper emphasizes that this isn’t a matter of the dark web or hidden, hard-to-access websites. “It all happens in plain sight,” the report says. The data is reportedly available through so-called lead generation portals. The article does not name specific platforms but notes: "We found at least eight such platforms (and plugins), and thoroughly tested three – based in Russia, Israel, and the USA."
Based on Mavilla’s findings, the Postal Police are conducting checks “to verify the online spread of personal information and the legality of possessing such data.”
