Saman case: Life sentences for parents and cousins, 22 years for uncle

Bologna, April 18 (LaPresse) – The Bologna Court of Appeal, after hours of deliberation, confirmed life sentences for Saman Abbas’s parents, Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheen, and extended the same sentence to her two cousins, Noman Hulhaq and Ikram Ijaz, who had been acquitted in the first trial. This ruling concerns the murder of the 18-year-old of Pakistani origin, killed in Novellara (Reggio Emilia) in 2021. The young woman’s uncle, Danish Hasnain, received a 22-year sentence, up from the 14 years handed down at first instance. Saman, who had refused a forced marriage, disappeared in the spring of 2021 and was found dead a year and a half later.
