25 April, Pagliarulo(Anpi): ‘It is not a country fair, but a democratic celebration’

Milan, 24 April (LaPresse) – 25 April ‘is neither a village festival nor a waltz tour. It is a democratic and republican holiday because exactly eighty years ago the fascist dictatorship was defeated and Italy was free; the Nazi invader was driven out and Italy was liberated. But also because that 25 April 1945 was a celebration of the end of the war, with its load of deaths, destruction, violence and fear. It celebrated the advent of democracy and the return of peace. Three years later, the anti-fascist Constitution sanctioned that the foundation of the democratic republic is work and that Italy repudiates war'. This was written by Gianfranco Pagliarulo, national president of Anpi, in an intervention published today by Libertà e Giustizia on its website. ‘We celebrate the end of fascism, Nazism and war, and we never want to see fascism, Nazism or war again. It is the celebration of democracy, freedom and equality. And we will continue to fight for democracy, freedom and equality as we did, for example, in 1960 against the Tambroni government,' Pagliarulo points out.
