Pope Francis, at 8 p.m. the coffin is closed: inside, coins from the papacy and the deed

Vatican City (Vatican), April 25 (LaPresse) – At 8 p.m., in a private ceremony, the rite of closing Pope Francis's coffin was held. It was regulated by the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis, recently modified by Pope Francis to streamline the process. There were no longer three coffins. Among those present were the Archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, the former Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vicar of the Diocese of Rome, Baldo Reina, the Substitute for the Secretariat of State, Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, the Holy See’s Almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, and the deceased’s family members. A white silk veil was placed over the Pope’s face; inside the coffin were a bag containing the coins minted during his papacy and the deed placed in a metal tube, sealed.
