Rome, May 6 (LaPresse) – “The Vatican authorities have announced the blocking of information transmission and phone coverage inside St. Peter’s Basilica to allow the cardinals to carry out their role of selecting and electing the new Pontiff in the best possible way. Obviously, a specific assessment was made with the telecom companies because while it is right for the cardinals to carry out their duties in total security, the same safety must be ensured for those on the other side of the colonnade,” said Fabio Ciciliano, head of Italy’s National Civil Protection Department, following the national operations committee meeting for the Conclave, held at the Civil Protection headquarters.
