Rome, 6 May (LaPresse) – Tragedy was narrowly averted today in the skies above Pantelleria, where two Frecce Tricolori aircraft collided. According to reports from the mayor of the island, Fabrizio D'Ancona, the aerobatic team was engaged in a training exercise when two aircraft collided, fortunately without crashing to the ground. The pilots managed to land, but one of them overshot the runway, coming to a halt near a rocky outcrop. Both pilots were able to exit the aircraft unaided and were taken to hospital, where they were found to have only suffered minor bruising. The aircraft sustained damage to the nose and a wing.
