Garlasco murder, Poggi family lawyer: ‘Prosecutors’ hypotheses are extravagant, they are ignoring the rulings’

Milan, 14 May (LaPresse) – The Pavia Public Prosecutor's Office, which is re-investigating the Garlasco murder, is ‘ignoring what was established in a fair trial’ and ‘giving credence, almost 20 years later,’ to ‘extravagant hypotheses’ that are ‘immediately reported in the press.’ This is according to Francesco Compagna, lawyer for Chiara Poggi's family. ‘The Poggi family is once again stunned by what is happening,’ adds the lawyer, who explains: ‘Our legal system gives prosecutors extensive powers during investigations, but this does not mean that investigators can place themselves above the jurisdiction’ or above final judgments. For lawyer Compagna, ‘respect for the people involved in such a tragic affair, who are now once again exposed to unspeakable suffering, would, in our opinion, require greater rigour in the evaluation of evidence and in the protection of the confidentiality of any investigations deemed appropriate’. This morning, the Carabinieri of Pavia carried out searches in Voghera at the home of Andrea Sempio, who is under investigation for the murder of Chiara Poggi on 13 August 2007.
