Naples, May 21 (LaPresse) – The mayor of Sorrento, Massimo Coppola, has been arrested by the Guardia di Finanza as part of an investigation by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office into alleged cases of corruption. The mayor was reportedly caught in the act by finance police from the Massa Lubrense unit last night, as he was pocketing a €6,000 bribe. Coppola, along with one of his collaborators and personal staff members, Francesco Di Maio, was caught by the officers while the two were having dinner with a Sorrento-based businessman. The €6,000, which is said to be an installment of a total sum of €120,000 illicitly agreed upon, was handed over during a dinner at a Sorrento restaurant, which had been specially organized by the businessman. The money allegedly concerns a contract for school meal services for the 2023–2026 period.
