Rome, 2 June (LaPresse) – A towering cloud of smoke has risen over Mount Etna, where an intense eruptive phase is currently underway. In a statement, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Etna Observatory, reported that at 9:24 a.m., a pyroclastic flow was triggered, "probably caused by a collapse of material from the northern flank of the Southeast Crater." Preliminary observations suggest that the hot material has not crossed the edge of the Valle del Leone. At the same time, the explosive activity from the Southeast Crater shifted to a lava fountain. Volcanic tremor levels have reached very high values, with the centroid of the sources located in the area of the Southeast Crater. Infrasound activity has also been high, with events localized around the Southeast Crater. The deformation signal from the DRUV station continues the trend of variation that began with the volcanic activity. The other deformation monitoring networks show no significant changes.
