Rome, June 15 (LaPresse) – “Iran’s race toward uranium enrichment and the construction of an atomic bomb was — and remains — unacceptable for Israel. Iran has repeatedly stated that its goal is not only to destroy Israel — which it doesn’t even refer to as the State of Israel, but as the ‘Zionist entity’ — but to eliminate every Israeli presence in the region. The day Iran possesses the atomic bomb, it wouldn’t wait an hour: it would use it without hesitation. Israel knows this — it always has — and that is its main concern. That’s why it was not hard to predict that a significant attack would eventually take place.”
This is what Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said in an interview with Corriere della Sera. “At the moment, there are no concrete signs of an imminent use of nuclear weapons by Israel, which instead aims to neutralize such armaments,” Crosetto added. “But, as in any conflict — and even more so in this one — it is essential to act with utmost caution. It is our duty to work toward a rapid de-escalation of tensions and to find a form of renewed coexistence between Israel and Iran. Otherwise, the risk of escalation is far more serious than in other global scenarios.”
