Rome, 15 July (LaPresse) – "Today marks exactly eight months since my son Alberto has been in prison, but everything remains silent, including our Prime Minister. This silence is unbearable for me and my family. Our government must take action, as the Swiss government did with my son's fellow prisoner, who was recently released and told the press about the terrible conditions in which Alberto is still being held. We cannot wait any longer. Our institutions must show that they care about the life of a fellow citizen and work urgently and effectively to bring our son home, using every diplomatic tool at their disposal, as has been done in other cases. Every day of inaction means unspeakable suffering for Alberto and for us. We have no contacts and we wait with confidence for someone to do what is necessary. Eight months is too long and we must rebel'. These were the words of Armanda Trentini, mother of Alberto Trentini, the Italian aid worker arrested in Venezuela on 15 November 2024, during a protest outside the Clodio court in Rome, where the trial for the murder of Giulio Regeni, who died in Cairo in 2016, is being held this morning.
