Open Arms: Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office appeals Salvini acquittal

Rome, 18 July (LaPresse) – The Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office has appealed against the acquittal handed down by the court against Matteo Salvini, then Minister of the Interior, in the Open Arms trial. This is a “saltum” appeal, i.e. an immediate appeal to the Court of Cassation, bypassing the appeal process. ‘Defending Italy and its borders is not a crime,’ commented Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini on social media.
