Milan, 29 July (LaPresse) The Milan Public Prosecutor's investigation into urban planning and the alleged “corrupt building system” is expanding to foreign funds as dozens of complaints from citizens about new construction sites pour in. Prosecutors, who are awaiting the investigating magistrate's decision on the request for the arrest of Manfredi Catella, former councillor Giancarlo Tancredi and four other architects and entrepreneurs, are looking into other projects in addition to those already under investigation after dozens of complaints from citizens were filed with the Public Prosecutor's Office. One of the ongoing investigations concerns the “beneficial owner” of foreign funds that have invested in Milanese real estate over the years and investigations into foreign bank accounts following initial reports of suspicious transactions received by investigators from the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Bank of Italy. A report by the Gdf hypothesises “ascertaining the origin of the cash flows” and “investigating the financial aspects”, including “critical elements linked to the possible laundering of cash then injected into the economic circuit linked to construction projects in Milan”, through orders for disclosure to banks and credit institutions. In particular, the spotlight was turned on after an SOS from Via Nazionale regarding “large transfers” of around €6.5 million that arrived “without cause” or with “cryptic causes” to the accounts of Egidio Holding srl and Patron Milan Residential Limited, companies linked to Andrea Bezziccheri's Bluestone galaxy. the 57-year-old entrepreneur who is facing prison on charges of bribing former landscape commission member Alessandro Scandurra with €279,136 in fees and consultancy payments, and who has already been committed to trial for building violations on the Park Tower in Via Crescenzago and is under investigation for the “Hidden Garden” project in Piazza Aspromonte.
